Center Moriches Football Remains Unbeaten

The Center Moriches Red Devils have done nothing but win in 2023 as they remain unbeaten following a road victory over Southampton over the weekend.

The Red Devils once again put on an absolute one sided affair as they would blow out their opponent by a score of 33-8 this weekend despite playing in less than ideal conditions over the weekend.

On the opening kickoff, Xavier Bryant would make his presence felt as he would return the kick 80 yards down the field for a touchdown and help his team jump out to an early 7-0 lead.

The Matt Albino Show once again was very prominent in the victory for the Red Devils as he posted 105 rushing yards on 9 attempts and scored two touchdowns. He now has scored at least twice in every game this season and has made himself a big time candidate for the Cipp Award, which is given out to the very best Running Back in Suffolk County.

Albino got the Red Devils on the Board First as he broke off a 60 yard touchdown run to give his team a two touchdown lead over Southampton in the first quarter.

The Red Devils didn’t let up on Southampton in the second quarter as they smelt blood and they remained on the attack and put up 19 points to increase their lead to 33-0 before the halftime horn.

Bryant once again made a huge impact on special teams as he would bring a punt back for a 50 yard return touchdown to make it a 21-0 affair in favor of Center Moriches.

Matt Albino once again found a hole and he didn’t miss it as the senior running back would dart his way home for a 20 yard touchdown that put his team up 27-0 in the second quarter.

With time running down before halftime and the ball in Center Moriches possession, Senior quarterback Connor Planz wanted to put together one more scoring drive before the quarter ended and his offense would not take no for an answer.

Planz would find Xavier Bryant for yet another touchdown on a 50 yard pass to give the Red Devils a commanding 33-0 lead before the half.

“The X-Man” as referred to by Athletic Director Jeremy Thode had a career day for the Red Devils as he would score three total touchdowns that all were 50 or more yards.

Bryant was absolutely dominant in both the return and pass catching game this week and he gives the Red Devils another weapon to keep defenses on their toes as he and Albino create a fearsome duo that is nearly impossible to stop when they are firing on all cylinders.

The Red Devil defense also did a tremendous job as they kept Southampton out of the endzone all day as they forced punts and turnovers on almost every drive.

Senior linebacker Marcellus Shedrick was the star player on the defensive side of the ball for Center Moriches as he would come away with two fumble recoveries that resulted in big drives for the Red Devils in this contest.
The only Southampton touchdown on the day was by the Southampton defense for a 68 yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that made the lead 33-8 instead of a 33-0.

Center Moriches now improves to 4-0 on the season and they will return home for a Friday Night Matchup against Babylon High School on October 6th. They will look to keep the hopes of an undefeated season alive as they push towards one of the most surprising runs to the County final we may see for a long time.
